Professor Dr. Muhammad Quamruzzaman (Dr. Zaman) is Head of the Plastic and Reconstruction Surgery Department of the National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital. He completed a MBBS degree at Dhaka Medical College in 1987. Dr. Zaman started his teaching career at the Pathology Department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He underwent specialized training in plastic and microsurgeries in Bangladesh as well as in India, the USA, and the Netherlands. He has been engaged in the management of facial clefts since 2000. Dr. Zaman and his team arrange cleft surgeries in more than 13 places all over the country besides Dhaka.
Since 2009 he has been supported by Deutsche Cleft Kinderhilfe, one of the initiators of Cleft Bangladesh, in performing cleft lip and palate operations in Bangladesh.
Dr. Zaman is primarily based at the Al-Markazul Islami Hospital in Dhaka, a 30-bed non-profit general hospital running under the Al-Markazul Islami trust. Al-Markazul Islami Hospital also provides vehicle services to bring cleft patients out of the Rohingya camp in Cox’s Bazar for Cleft Bangladesh.
Annually, Dr. Zaman arranges surgeries for more than 700 cleft children. To date, he has completed more than 13,000 cleft cases.
